The Burgenland district has many cultural highlights. Among them is the district town of Naumburg (Saale) with the Naumburg Cathedral, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Many Romanesque and Gothic churches, old manor houses and windmills in almost every village are stone witnesses to the thousand-year history of settlement in the Burgenland district. There is also Neu-Augustusburg Castle in the town of Weißenfels. In the west and south it borders on Thuringia and in the east on Saxony. Another highlight is the approximately 3700 to 4000 year old Nebra Sky Disc, which is shown in the ARche Nebra.
