In almost every village in the Burgenland district there are buildings that bear witness to the approximately thousand-year history of settlement. One of the cultural highlights of the Burgenland district is the Naumburg Cathedral in the district town of Naumburg (Saale). This was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is also Neu-Augustusburg Castle in the town of Weißenfels. In the Saale-Unstrut region, viticulture is practiced, which is marketed to tourists. In the east it borders on Saxony and in the south and west on Thuringia.
